Collectibles

When we start collecting we never know where it will lead or what causes us to collect something in the first place. I have always loved blue and white pieces just never thought about collecting it.

I started out with some small pieces and moved on to larger things.

Bible Journaling

Hello friends,

I hope some of you are still out there after all this time. It has been a long, long time since I wrote anything since I lost my husband in 2012. These last 5 years have been rough. Not only did I lose him I also lost my dog Pennie in 2013. He had given her to me for my birthday the year we were married in 1999. She was almost 15 when she died. Then the next year, in 2014, I lost my cat, Maverick, that he brought home from a jobsite on the day before Thanksgiving the next year. But as we all know life must go on. So let's fast forward to the year 2017 and move forward.

I have started many projects during this time and I guess my favorite right now is bible journaling. I purchased an English standard version single column journaling bible. I really do like it because it is so easy to read and work in.

I love the columns that give you a place to write. I make sermon notes at church on Sunday and also do some drawings. You can take a verse and expand on it by drawing or just writing out the verse. Sometimes it takes a while to decide which one to do. In the beginning I would look for inspiration on Pinterest. There is so much out there. All you have to do is look or maybe even google the subject of bible journaling and you can find a lot. Hopefully within the next year I will have a lot done.

Washi tape on the edges at the beginning of each book.

I went to a journaling class at my local Lifeway Bookstore and got the idea of using the Washi tape from someone who was there.

This is some of the artwork I've been doing. Sometimes it take a while to decide which verse to do. I look for inspiration on Pinterest. You can get some good ideas and a lot of the ones on there you can download and just trace on the bible pages. I use Prismacolor colored pencils to color with. To me they are one of the best. The colors blend very easily and the lead is soft so it colors real well especially on the thin pages of the bible.

This was the first one. After I did it I was hooked and would sometime look until late at night trying to decide which one would be next.

It's been so long since my last post I don't know hardly how to begin.

It has been a hard last 5 months. In October of last year my husband found a knot on the right side of his neck and after several test it was determined that it was cancer. They also found a spot on the backside of his left lung. He went thru radiation and chemo for about 3 1/2 months for the place on his neck. They ran some more test and said his neck looked good. We were going to wait about 3 weeks and then start treatment on the lung. He was feeling much better, but you know that God is in control and he said it was time for him to come home. I lost him on Friday morning, March 23rd. The doctors said it was not the cancer that took him, but that his heart was so weak from all the treatments that it just couldn't keep up with his body. I'm thankful for one thing, he didn't lay and suffer for a long time with cancer. I miss him everyday so much, but he is in a much better place and we will meet again one day.

Please keep our family in your prayers.

Til we meet again,
JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-29168441762595067692011-09-27T16:07:00.025-05:002011-09-29T06:39:26.407-05:00Autumn Tag Swap<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKRvm_pU3kYfGNOORGEF7aNTnJ3IdGt0x5DfO49y8LFQPbIS5UfICEW3et_oru88M67dundxf6U6_F-MmjrYcRaWGpV3EKE8zp57IrGElMKkvQUS_qUOl-yvUzd0bT4PFb3YROpH3VpKBL/s320/DSC_1147.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657585486298823074" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgha2ryZ11FatbikPXgnnBVjUrHHwgC0_r62Rrr7Ohs9MjwcJuurZAFGFN5KSYpRlJFudeF2KTg-kss3FxDg82AGn02XI6opChuJ3n5n4jFWXZ_l0lvrWokukXQQuLPx2C6uF0OEGdcc-vo/s320/DSC_1120.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657385284969386226" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizZVsNnqvB9R5j2dqrXZcNWMwqQlF2Mb38K_v0fWpUwadDiM56uH5xt75DMQut-4cYoxBl4OD-Yp5uWDykTlub397-X8DFvHXcRR2aKlg9QqYdxJKDuh5l3tfo4nc5mVyHgKZiBoPmMX_0/s320/DSC_1122.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657389528387288786" />
The first picture is the tag from my new friend in California and the next two pictures of tags is the one I made for her.
What a fun time I have had participating in the Autumn Tag Swap over at It's A Very Cherry World. Some of us had no idea what we were doing, like me, but we tried anyway. Thanks for your ideas.

I was so excited to be making an autumn tag. This was my first try, but I'm sure it won't be the last. First I looked for something stiff enough to make a tag out of. Well, I was in luck because I had just decided to bake a cake and when I emptied the cake flour box there it was, the perfect piece of cardboard. I cut out the tag and proceeded to find something to go on it when I remember that my tag was going to a bear lover. I found a picture of The Three Bears strolling thru the woods, so with a little paper, some glitter and some old buttons from my collection I was in business.

My tag would be going to Linnea in California at Neabear's Sewing and Craft Mess. It has been so much fun learning to make tags. Can't wait to see what everyone has created.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLuN03JyJzBVerB0KoVQcvxV1iiKtGeIRbmQ9hRzrc86r4Kx8buI-PIm_X9z5252NPX6TUKGMi3Bbjkr_dyXIrL-ViBE2nxvv0i0ayGTl9gXQ-AzpsFfva37aVqeJUfL4N8ONkI9s-0ZZy/s320/DSC_1148.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657386395365440610" />
When the mail came on Monday my tag arrived from Linnea in California. I love my tag. It is soooo sweet. I love the colors. I can't wait for the trees to be turning all the oranges, browns, and reds we see here. Well I didn't really need my rain gear for it only rained one day the entire two weeks we were there. We traveled everyday to someplace special. I really can't say which day was the best because all of them were fun.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 221px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIshN3sDueGpwU5ll21rtqI9CnN_bWHZhE8M7a2sXWd8OHipT-SVhkDH02vE4bYaP6b2LOeoQANaWA2PgitlLCkU0KNhK-ayzYfZ4SMcmkE55gvxWLAziNb8c-YGuulT2iGDbhEhp7yPcO/s320/trip+to+england+004.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653837751025381650" />

We saw several of the cathedrals, and all of them were beautiful. We saw Stonehenge, King Arthur's roundtable, the ships in Portsmouth, London Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the beautiful countryside, shopping at Harrod's Department Store, Windsor Castle and many more places and things. This picture was made outside Windsor Castle.

Yet, still the best part of my trip was spending time with my mother and getting to know her and my half sister. We would stay up late at night and just talk. She had planned to come to the states several different times but everytime something would come up so they couldn't make the trip. I was so fortunate to get to go see her.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 228px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaPb5MZUHmUbjrFs4kiI9PqgtJftMnTwOmg2z23sdYs9CkhHlhixSyG6Hwx60Jzs3Nnhx_58FO1C1G9NBDHMyRQfYDK0wdFjXaR3AlXyfKE2X5Z_CgUVuPmhx8gjX9C5xUmsz_m6iIna0U/s320/trip+to+england+006.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653842146730936418" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 221px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidOp-SDwWGB6rKCHaifCVx-N5LxcMQJ6GKhcicq5sphth5hpOnvOjn-qD9i6C2VQgOlmYjDcnSn9nit2uAws4CL7aGUm-h2xVxRWQWNGf30fSiG6tM4LIs5rvlVIX60PJNnYB9psgr7j2G/s320/trip+to+england+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653836486056677314" />

My half-sister and her husband ran a pub called The Coach and Horses. When I think about it the memories just come flooding back as if it were yesterday but this story must come to a close.

When we left for the airport that morning there were a lot of mixed emotions. I really didn't want to say goodbye not knowing if I would ever see her again, but I knew I had to.

We ran into alot of air turbulence on the way home and it made the trip a little rough. It was a long trip, but I was so glad to see my family and friends. I took so many pictures and the memories will be with me forever.

Well you see, that was the last time I got to see my mother because she got sick in November of that year and died in December. I had a friend at work that love to travel and he said he would fly over with me and then fly on to Germany for the second week of our trip. I had to get a passport and after that we got our tickets. I was so excited about going. Things were finally coming together. They did a story in our local newspaper about my trip to see my mother. You see it had been nearly 50 years since she had seen me. I was very nervous and excited at the same time.

We boarded the plane in Atlanta, GA and flew all night. Not only was I nervous but also excited about the trip. I was scared about flying for you see I had only been on a plane one other time, it was much smaller and a 3 hour trip. Some of the people aboard the plane slept including my friend so I had plenty of time to think and get more nervous. I think that is what probably made me a little sick. A stewardess saw that I was not feeling well and ask if I needed something. I told her I was nervous and felt a little sick. She carried me to the back of the plane and got me something to drink and some crackers to eat. We decided it was only a case of nerves after I told her why I was going to England. It may take me a while you see. It starts in a land far away across the sea and then it comes home to stay.
I was born and raised in Alabama though I was conceived in England. My mother came over on a ship when she was about 6 months pregnant and was only 18 years old. She almost lost me at sea, so there was a possibility that I would not have been here.
After she was here and I was born not long after she became pregnant again and she had my baby sister. We are only 14 months apart. Now you would think what a happy little family we had, but that is not so true. For you see my mother was here in a strange land far away from her family in England and she missed them very much. Well as time went on she and my daddy didn't get along very well and she made a very tough decision to return to her homeland across the sea.
She left behind her two little girls and thought she would never see them again.
Our grandparents raised us and our grandmother keep in touch with her for a long while. Our grandmother would send pictures and we would get letters and cards from her and our other relatives in England.
As time went on her little girls grew up, married and had families of their own. It would be years before she would see only one of her babies again.

I wrote her letters for over 2 years, sending pictures of my family and her only grandson. During our writings I ask her if she had a telephone and could I call her. My next letter came and had a number. On Christmas day, 1996 I made a phone call that changed my life forever. When she answered the phone we could hardly talk for crying. I had sent her a homemade pound cake for Christmas and she had just cut it when I called. We talked several time for the next few months. I wanted to go to England so bad, but knew it would be almost impossible to do.

Then on Mother's Day 1997 in church that Sunday our pastor said there was someone in the congregation that was going to make a trip and see someone they had not seen since childhood. I had never told anyone at church about my situation or wanting to see my mother but I knew then that he was talking about me. So soon afterward I started making plans to make the long trip to England.

More to come......

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Til we meet again....
JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-22520222272666659402011-08-17T09:49:00.007-05:002011-08-17T15:27:17.174-05:00Where are you?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN1xuQ7ZGrDXwQ0uDygybls7upJ9lph0RjPDgZXxjSy7DJUHsGR_6obqShkLtguv99hHlpLF5Mji4vBG62k1-hXBn95Wv3KdUZzVLBaRO05O5ctte4JQfXY7h2C0JqeI_SMcTpMIFGxHrf/s400/DSC_0615.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5641840770438147298" />

I really don't know why, except that maybe I just haven't had a lot going on. The holidays have all passed and they were wonderful spending time with our children and grandchildren. Each year something changes and I know that it always will. This year we had 2 extra kids here. They were my daughter in laws brothers' children. They were teenagers. To be in a strange place they made themselves at home and that is what makes you feel good.

My sad time at Christmas is thinking about my mother and the short time we spent together. She was only 19 years old when she came to America on a ship from England and I was born 4 months later. Fourteen months later my baby sister was born and then when I was 3 years old she left and went back to England where her family lived. She left behind two little ones, a 3 year old and a 2 year old. They say that children don't remember things at such an early age, but I remember the day she left. She never got to see my sister again but I got to see her again in September, 1997. It was a sad time in England for Diana had just been killed, but for me it was wonderful, for you see it had been 51 years since I last saw my mother. I didn't know exactly what to expect when I arrived, but it was one of the most wonderful 2 weeks in my life. I got to see a half sister for the first time and I also have a half brother but he was not there. After my 2 weeks there and I was leaving the airport something told me I would never see her again and you see I didn't. She got sick in December of that year and died on the 17th, so now I just have to remember all the wonderful memories.

I have been trying to download the last picture taken of my mother as she held her little girls for about the last time before she left. I remember when the picture was taken. Maybe I can get it to work later. If I can I will add the picture soon.

Hope everyone has a blessed week.
Till we meet again,
JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-23324176000635026762010-10-26T19:40:00.016-05:002010-10-26T22:02:41.604-05:00Day Trip to ChattanoogaWhat a beautiful day. When I tried to take it away from him to put it in the wash he laid down on it so I just let him keep it.

Have a blessed day.
Motorboat and JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-86234422353723284372010-08-23T07:35:00.008-05:002010-08-23T07:54:08.764-05:00Down a winding roadEver wonder where the road will lead...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjixQdL5vmL98MuKsYdyoCBZ3FDXfQegdczu3dCORT9shA0H4JMNKUkSpPDzC70FJP74BMms3Oz208OW4LVvW0xKej7tjjvxgqhI6Iq60s0jvJiZyD4VcbGeXbxxBlBg-9-8dzax6fmqwJH/s400/DSC_0615.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508584519390442962" />

or who is waiting at the end...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAAZsQyLlB6V7f2yfoZeL5GY6-BDMIVTfIamoQLy35U27HcAydABzLKgVcmyrE8H4pG9XMb-gCO-Wmc3psjuTaJezbZXBVeHeVV6qUzQpMc3iaw-1WBl4Nsx_e9r_j3inuO4RoSnfRPY0Q/s400/DSC_0617.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508586161912617410" />

Have a blessed day.

JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-44501678921562219122010-08-21T07:00:00.011-05:002010-08-21T07:43:59.992-05:00Small wonders of the worldWell with all the garden done until fall I feel like a bird out of the cage. Now I have some free time to enjoy blogland once again, do some crafting and take some photos with my new camera.
While visting with a neighbor last week we were sitting out next to the deck and their hummingbird feeder was covered up with hummers. Probably 8 or 10 at a time fighting over the food so when I got home I put my feeder back up and within about 10 minutes this is what I had coming to visit. Now there are 3 of them.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLPUCFYeTDSIblVl65-oGKAJ4Dap5bd2HNPM1e-4GE1FmwhMJtG21GnI-5R6KCSFyjwPya8qFSl92C-lO6F7HFV6eKHlVqhj89Mc3nBB93dkj975r6yUZe5shlUjQt2VcSXJOa8tB0CtJB/s400/DSC_0613.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507835520105229026" />
I think he eats more than he weights. He stays there all the time. I think I need another feeder for the rest of them. He doesn't what to share the food.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKk7tqodgW-xryWICKY6ruTi17Ddc8ySHJ-r-Lo6J5EvfjYrIJjVia1nBcxbLEi7BF2-PuM7SDrvOgm2qTxfBDghykgSntuYxIzuBmP4DJyz9T8JcvUSKw9_P6PPgCAKAEOVoEPWserFE4/s400/DSC_0611.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507838215685733458" />
Sitting on the clothesline waiting his turn. After the adventure with the rattlesnake I was afraid to go to the garden for a while. When I did I had a mess. The tomatoes and green beans were out of control.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmDgCPp0PvvSP4U3Np78iUH19catGhoTmh6NZSrP8UyViX6Ry1SVd7D918zZA5E1m_M8Cp9Ep_bRKGmJKuu34SThdFWwg20fPGpas8TOnClpn5BgsuaO3dxufKXpyKncrC0-pIK3c8Gfr-/s400/DSC_0443.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504638164958584706" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqbua_uk8AeGMvQN99fK8r0Wy00tjLw9-in-ZtEwIppKdtbB3NDj1cSPnedz7HiBKuTE3QL8ebBByOnStwUt3HNNpPw4IcXPBRAdxR_zIHzIZVWRdReyNr8sHaMN2F4QZIvEPKes2ETrDN/s400/DSC_0473.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504637465210007442" />
I've been busy trying to put stuff up in the freezer. Tomorrow I'm going after some okra and that will be the end of my freezing for a while. Hope to plant a fall garden so I can have some turnip greens and collards and that will be all till next spring.

I will be glad when we have a break in this hot weather. No rain for several weeks and everything is so dry. The weatherman said we have a 50% chance of rain for the weekend. I hope he is not wrong. I would settle for 100%.

I've been working on some projects and when I have them finished I will post some pictures. I am already thinking about Christmas. It will be here before we know it.

Have a blessed day.
JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4543318395371227122.post-72582471143966060472010-07-16T10:46:00.012-05:002010-07-16T13:50:27.875-05:00What a Thursday!!Thursday started out just like any other day, went to the garden and picked tomatoes then this afternoon we will be picking blueberries. I eat a lot of blueberries so I would like about a gallon or two. In the morning I need to pick the beans for I am sure they are ready.

But then things changed....

Remember back in June I wrote about a black snake that was in the front yard as Roger came home from work one day but that snake didn't scare me. Last night when we came home after dark and as I was going down the walk to the front porch I looked down just in time to see something in the shadows on the walk. First I thought it was just some grass, but I remembered that I had pulled the grass out the day before. All of a sudden I heard a RATTLE. I screamed and ran back toward the car where Roger was getting things out. It was a RATTLESNAKE about three foot long. The lights were not on so I went and got some help from the best neighbors in the world. They came to our rescue with a flashlight to see with and a hoe to kill it. They killed the snake and we discovered he was eating a mouse. I guess I disturbed his evening meal. Needless to say I will not be venturing out after dark any more for a while. This makes the 4th snake that has been killed in our yard and the neighbors since June. It will be a long, long summer. I don't even know if I can go to the garden again and the snake was not even in the garden, but who knows he probably has some friends there. I have beans that need picking but they will just have to wait. I don't think I have ever been so scared before and it will take me a while to get over this. After everything was over and we finally got in the house I just thanked God for protecting us. I was so close to that snake I could have been bitten.

Roger and Scott threw the snake and the mouse away before I could take a picture. Well I hope we don't find any more snakes.

Well I have to get all the tomatoes and blueberries put up because we will probably be going to the river early Saturday morning. I sure do need some rest away from everything for a while.

Have a blessed day.
JoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2
